South Korea's export titans come up against unexpected menace: voters Across the Sea of Japan, South Korean companies are rapidly expanding their global clout - many thanks to a rather weak won. Hyundai Motor Co., South Korea's largest automaker, has been a major beneficiary of the government's policy to weaken the currency. Last year, it sold more than 1 million vehicles in the U.S. - a first for the company. In doing so, it climbed into sixth place in U.S. car sales, overtaking Nissan Motor Co. and closing in on fifth-ranked Honda Motor Co.
