TAIPEI (Nikkei)--United Arrows Ltd. (7606) opened its first overseas store Thursday in Taipei, Taiwan. The directly managed store offers the same clothing and accessories as the company's multibrand stores in Japan, including its Beauty & Youth and Green Label Relaxing lines for young people.

The apparel retailer sees the new store as a stepping stone for expanding its business overseas. President Mitsuhiro Takeda, in an interview with The Nikkei, expressed his confidence in growing Taiwanese demand.
The stand-alone store, with two floors and a total floor area of about 220 sq. meters, is run by eight staff members, including one Japanese employee. Items sold there are priced about 25% higher than at stores in Japan. The company aims to open about 10 stores in Taiwan by 2022.
United Arrows conducted test marketing in Taipei, Singapore and other areas. According to Takeda, the company chose Taiwan for its first overseas store based on economic scale, friendly relations with Japan and other factors. He said the company's strength is its attention to detail and uniquely Japanese sense of hospitality. He added that the company wants to create a market for men's dress clothes in Taiwan, where such items are not yet popular.
