Nikkei Opens Tad Lower On Wall St Losses; Awaiting BOJ Meeting
TOKYO (NQN)--Tokyo stocks opened slightly lower Thursday, with the Nikkei Stock Average falling 28 points to begin the day in the upper-14,400 range.
Wall Street losses overnight are prompting investors to lock in recent gains. At the same time, the dollar's rise to the mid-98 yen level is supporting the market, leaving stocks without strong trading cues in either direction early on.
The Bank of Japan will release the results of its policy board meeting around noon and a number of big Japanese companies will announce earnings. Investors are likely to sit on their hands until those results are out.
