Starbucks Japan Heads To The Web
TOKYO (Nikkei)--Starbucks Coffee Japan Ltd. (2712) will launch this month an online store offering coffee beans, mugs and other products.
About 50 items, including instant coffees, will sell for the same prices as in physical stores, along with Web-only gift products. Starbucks Japan will target online sales of several hundred million yen in the first year.
Already ringing up 9.5 billion yen in sales of coffee mugs and other goods at real-world stores, Starbucks Japan foresees solid online demand among households for the same products.
Web customers will also qualify for the company's membership program. Based on their online purchases, members will receive coupons and other perks to encourage visits to the physical stores.
Starbucks Japan hit the 1,000-store mark in Japan last month. With central Tokyo showing signs of market saturation, the coffee chain will cultivate online sales as a new source of earnings.
