PC Shipments Down 1.3% On Year In Sept
TOKYO (NQN)--PC shipments in September fell 1.3% on the year to 1.08 million units, the first year-on-year decline in three months, according to data released Tuesday by the Japan Electronics and Information Technology Industries Association.
Companies are stepping up their sales of tablet computers, as the shopping season for laptops -- which account for about 70% of PC shipments -- seems to have come to an end.
Replacement demand from businesses continued to increase due to Microsoft Corp.'s announcement that it will end support for its Windows XP operating system in April 2014. Among desktop models, shipments of PCs without monitors, keyboards and other peripherals jumped 22.8% to 213,000 units.
By value, PC shipments rose 12.7% to 77.1 billion yen, for the third straight month of year-on-year increase.
