JR East Unveils Tohoku-Themed Dining Train
TOKYO (Nikkei)--East Japan Railway Co. (9020) on Tuesday showcased the Tohoku Emotion, a restaurant train featuring regional craftwork and dishes prepared with local ingredients.
The three-car train will run a single round trip from Hachinohe in Aomori Prefecture to Kuji in Iwate Prefecture along the northeastern shore on Saturdays, Sundays and holidays. In addition to an open kitchen, it offers private as well as conventional dining rooms. The train carried reporters for an early look on Tuesday, with service to start Saturday.
The Hachinohe-Kuji leg, priced at 7,000 yen, comes with a multicourse meal. An array of desserts are presented on the return leg, priced at 4,000 yen. A round-trip ticket is discounted to 10,600 yen.
With a capacity of 48 passengers, JR East says that the train is almost fully booked through the end of March.
