Tokyo Disneyland's Success Spurred Global Expansion: Exec
TOKYO (Nikkei)--Tokyo Disneyland has been a trailblazer, paving the way for Walt Disney Co. to open theme parks in Paris and Hong Kong, said Thomas Staggs, chairman of Walt Disney Parks and Resorts.

The success in Japan proved that the Disney-based theme park could be exportable, he said in a recent interview with The Nikkei. Staggs is currently visiting Japan to attend a Disney D23 exposition event scheduled for Saturday at Tokyo Disney Resort. It is the first time the convention for Disney fans is being hosted outside the U.S.
Tokyo Disneyland celebrated its 30th anniversary in April. The Paris theme park opened in 1992, followed by Hong Kong in 2005.
Innovation, according to Staggs, is the key to the growth of Disney parks. Disney is constantly in talks with Oriental Land Co. (4661), the operator of Tokyo Disney Resort, over new services and attractions, he said.
