Beer Shipments Hit All-Time Low For Jan-Sept
TOKYO (Nikkei)--Shipments of beer and beerlike beverages for the nine months ended September fell 0.8% on the year to 318.23 million cases, marking an all-time low for a Jan.-Sept. period, according to data released Thursday by five major Japanese brewers.
Demand failed to grow during the summer, when it is normally the highest, because of abnormal weather, such as typhoons and torrential rain.
Asahi Beer Beverage Co., an Asahi Group Holdings Ltd. (2502) unit, held the largest share in the beer market at 37.4%, followed by Kirin Holdings Co. (2503) unit Kirin Brewery Co., which held a 35.1% share.
One case of beer contains 20 633ml bottles.
