Assn Eyeing Credit Firms' Efforts To Weed Out Organized Crime
TOKYO (Nikkei)--The Japan Consumer Credit Association will survey members to evaluate their initiatives for filtering out customers with ties to organized crime.
This comes after Mizuho Bank was found to have supplied loans, through Orient Corp. (8585), to borrowers with links to criminal organizations.
The survey will be conducted as early as this week, with the association zeroing in on databases at consumer credit and credit card companies for screening borrowers. It had polled members in the past to see if they had such databases in place, but will now go a step further and ask them how the information is being used.
