Japan's Household Spending Falls 1.6% In August
TOKYO (Kyodo)--Average Japanese monthly household spending fell a price-adjusted 1.6 percent in August from a year earlier to 284,646 yen, the government said Tuesday.
The average monthly income of salaried households came to 471,411 yen, down 0.9 percent in real terms, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications said in a preliminary report.
Household spending figures are a key indicator of private consumption, which accounts for about 60 percent of Japanese gross domestic product.
