Dai-ichi Life Forecaster Named Ace For 5th Straight Year
TOKYO (Nikkei)--For the fifth consecutive year, Yoshiki Shinke at Dai-ichi Life Research Institute Inc. has been named to the Japan Center for Economic Research's list of the five most accurate economic forecasters in its monthly surveys.
The ESP Forecast polls 37 private-sector economists about gross domestic product growth, the consumer price index and other indicators, and selects the best performers each year since 2004.
Masaaki Kanno at JPMorgan Securities Japan Co., the center's Kengo Tahara, Ryutaro Kono at BNP Paribas Securities (Japan) Ltd., and Junya Morizane at Fukoku Mutual Life Insurance Co. rounded out the fiscal 2012 list, announced Monday.
Bears performed better than bulls on the whole for fiscal 2012.
The total average of the participants' estimates ranked sixth out among the 37. "We're getting good results from a consensus of economists," said Hosei University professor Takao Komine, who oversees the forecast.
