Restaurant Sales Rise 2% In Aug
TOKYO (NQN)--All-store sales at restaurants in Japan rose 2% on the year in August, marking the fourth straight monthly increase, the Japan Foodservice Association reported Wednesday.
Sales at family-style restaurants were strong thanks to a rise in high-priced items and cold dishes, climbing 4% to mark the fourth consecutive monthly rise.
Per-customer sales rose 2.2%, with fast-food restaurants seeing a 2.7% increase. However, the overall number of customers dropped 0.1% despite one more Saturday than the previous year. The fall is due in part to record-setting hot weather and heavy rain.
