Microcars Highlight Electric Vehicle Exhibition
TOKYO (Nikkei)--Electric microcars and the latest in fast-charging technologies are taking center stage at the fourth annual Electric Vehicle Development Technology Exhibition, which opened Wednesday at the Tokyo Big Sight.
A number of companies are showing off electric microcars, which are three- or four-wheeled ultracompact vehicles with seating for one or two. This segment promises to capture market share as a convenient way to travel short distances.
Kyoden Co. (6881), which designs and manufactures printed circuit boards, is using the exhibition to showcase its low-priced Rena X3 electric tricycle. Kyoden plans to release the Rena X3 later this year for just 498,000 yen, significantly lower than the Coms sold by Toyota Auto Body Co., which starts at 668,000 yen.
