Disney Japan To Bundle DVD, Online Movie Sales
TOKYO (Nikkei)--The Japanese arm of Walt Disney Co. plans to sell movies and animated works in packages that contain both optical discs and online access to the content starting in November.
For the first round, six titles, including "Monsters University," will be released in bundled packages on Nov. 20. They will be priced at 4,000 yen each, excluding the consumption tax. All new titles will be sold this way at the unified price.
The packages will contain DVDs, Blu-ray Discs and codes for viewing the content online via tablets, smartphones and other devices. Users will be able to view the movies by connecting to either Niconico, a video-sharing site run by Dwango Co. (3715), or Google Inc.'s YouTube.
