Domestic Smartphone Shipments Drop 48.2% In July
TOKYO (NQN)--Smartphone shipments by domestic manufacturers in July dropped 48.2% on the year to 1.02 million units, the first decrease in three months, according to data released Tuesday by the Japan Electronics and Information Technology Industries Association.
Sales of summer models, which started earlier than last year, have tapered off. Smartphone shipments account for about 68.3% of overall mobile phone shipments.
Shipments of mobile phones and PHS (personal handyphone system) handsets by domestic manufacturers dropped 49.3% to 1.5 million units.
