U.S. Official Test-Rides JR Tokai Maglev Bullet Train
NAGOYA (Nikkei)--A top official from the U.S. Department of Transportation has taken a test ride on Central Japan Railway Co.'s (9022) Linear Chuo Shinkansen, a magnetically levitated train that can reach speeds of 500kph.

Central Japan Railway, better known as JR Tokai, just resumed test runs with a prototype of the maglev train on an extended stretch of track Aug. 29.
U.S. Deputy Secretary of Transportation John Porcari took his ride Wednesday. Porcari was in Tokyo for the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation forum's APEC Transportation Ministerial Meeting.
JR Tokai is keen to export its maglev technologies to the U.S. and has its eye on orders for the Northeast Corridor, the 730km line between Washington, D.C. and Boston. The firm hopes to gain momentum by giving American officials firsthand experience with its technological capabilities.
