Japan Post Unveils Kitte Commercial Complex In JP Tower
TOKYO (Nikkei)--Japan Post Co. on Monday showed reporters the Kitte commercial facility it will open Thursday in JP Tower in front of Tokyo Station.
Kitte occupies one floor below ground and six above in JP Tower, which was built on the former site of the Tokyo Central Post Office. The Kitte site encompasses 9,400 sq. meters of floor space and features a large open area surrounded by 98 eateries, shops and other vendors.
Designed with tourists in mind, the underground floor offers a collection of specialty foods from throughout Japan, including western confections from Hokkaido, ox tongue from Miyagi and Japanese side dishes from Kagoshima.
The aboveground floors house trendy fashion merchandise along with a long-standing shrimp cracker store and other shops intended to attract foreign tourists.
Alongside the Tokyo Station Marunouchi Building, which reopened last fall after a major refurbishment, the Kitte facility is expected to draw domestic and overseas tourists as an economic trigger for the area.
