Nikkei Tops 12,400 After Dow Hits Record High

TOKYO (NQN)--Tokyo stocks opened higher Tuesday, supported by the overnight rise in the Dow Jones industrial average to another all-time high. The Nikkei Stock Average climbed 84 points to begin the day at the lower-12,400 level, its highest intraday position since Sept. 9, 2008.

The dollar strengthened to the upper-96 yen line on expectations that the Bank of Japan will move up the implementation of its monetary easing steps, prompting investors to buy stocks.
