Nikkei Ends At Year's Second-Highest Level
TOKYO (NQN)--Tokyo stocks continued higher Friday, with the Nikkei Stock Average climbing 47.02 points, or 0.41%, to end the day at 11,606.38, the highest point since Feb. 25, when the index hit its 2012-'13 high at 11,662.52.
The yen's fall prompted buying of stock index futures, pushing up the benchmark index further in the afternoon. Short-term players were aggressively buying some domestic demand-linked stocks, including property developers. This boosted overall stocks.
The trading value on the first section of the Tokyo Stock Exchange totaled about 1.82 trillion yen on a preliminary basis.
