Govt To Submit BOJ Chief Candidates Thur Or Fri
TOKYO (Nikkei)--The government is expected to present to the Diet its candidates for Bank of Japan governor and two deputy governors Thursday or Friday.
Ichiro Kamoshita, head of the Diet affairs committee of the ruling Liberal Democratic Party, made remarks to that effect at a meeting at a hotel in Tokyo Tuesday morning. The secretaries-general from the LDP and New Komeito, as well as New Komeito's diet policy committee chairman, also attended the meeting.
The parties agreed to hold the vote on the candidates at full sessions of the upper and lower houses by March 15, before current BOJ Gov. Masaaki Shirakawa steps down March 19. The two current deputy governors' terms will expire on that day.
