DJ: Transport Ministry Concludes Probe Into Boeing 787 Fuel Leak Problems

TOKYO--Japan's transport minister said Friday that the ministry had concluded its investigation into fuel leaks on a Japan Airlines Co. (9201) Boeing 787 Dreamliner in January, and instructed the airline to take steps to prevent the recurrence of the problem.

"The problem of fuel leaks has been cleared up," said Akihiro Ohta, minister of land, infrastructure, transport and tourism, at a press conference.

A JAL 787 leaked fuel before takeoff at Boston's Logan International Airport on Jan. 9. The same plane leaked fuel from its left wing nozzle at Tokyo's Narita International Airport on Jan. 13.

The problems weren't connected to battery overheating incidents that led to the grounding of all 50 Dreamliners in service worldwide, where they will stay until the battery problems have been resolved.

"It's too early to say that we are over the hump," Mr. Ohta said, referring to the ongoing investigation into the battery incidents.
