NTT West To Overhaul Ops With Eye Toward Small-Biz Sales
OSAKA (Nikkei)--Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Corp.'s (9432) regional arm for western Japan will reorganize operations to strengthen sales activities targeting small and midsize businesses.
NTT West Corp. plans to create a unit in October to which it will transfer corporate sales operations at eight regional subsidiaries, as well as a portion of its own corporate sales operations.
This will mark a departure from its area-based organizational setup. The new unit will handle sales activities for NTT West's entire service area, focusing mainly on smaller businesses.
NTT West faces tougher competition than sister company NTT East Corp. from such rivals as telecommunications subsidiaries of power utilities. Through the new unit, NTT West aims to promote cloud computing and fiber-optic services more effectively to small and midsize businesses, for which the firm sees potential for big growth.
The eight regional subsidiaries will be dissolved following the creation of the new unit. Their retail sales, maintenance and inspection operations will be transferred out to other subsidiaries.
