DJ: Vice Fin Min Expects Abe To Disclose BOJ Gov Candidate Next Week

TOKYO--A senior Japanese vice finance minister said Thursday he expects Prime Minister Shinzo Abe to reveal his candidate for next Bank of Japan governor next week.

"I expect the name will come out next week," said Senior Vice Finance Minister Shunichi Yamaguchi in a regular press conference.

Mr. Yamaguchi said that in his opinion, the new governor should not only share Mr. Abe's economic policy views, but be "a decisive person, an effective manager, fluent in a foreign language, and capable of performing international duties effectively."

Mr. Yamaguchi also said direct foreign bond-buying by the government or the Bank of Japan--an idea mentioned by Mr. Abe and Finance Minister Taro Aso during parliamentary sessions earlier this week--is unlikely to be a topic at the upcoming meeting between Mr. Abe and U.S. President Barack Obama.
