Aso Says Govt Not Considering Foreign Bond Purchases

TOKYO (NQN)--The government is not considering purchasing foreign bonds, Finance Minister Taro Aso said Tuesday, contradicting Prime Minister Shinzo Abe's remarks to the upper house Budget Committee on Monday that the Bank of Japan had the option of buying overseas bonds as part of its monetary easing efforts.

Aso also said the government is not considering revising the BOJ law, a move some say would threaten the central bank's independence.
