Toll-Free Highways May Be Postponed A Year: Maehara

TOKYO (Nikkei)--Transport Minister Seiji Maehara said Friday the implementation of a toll-free highway system may be delayed by a year beyond fiscal 2012, which the ruling Democratic Party of Japan set as the target date while campaigning for the lower house election in 2009.

Maehara said ending highway tolls is one of the campaign promises the DPJ will make good on within the next four years, starting from the current fiscal year.
