Nikkei takes the privacy of Nikkei.com’s users seriously and is solely responsible for the privacy of information provided by Nikkei.com users. Nikkei complies with the privacy laws of Japan and we are committed to safeguarding the privacy of users.

Purpose
The purpose for data collection is to enable you to establish an account with Nikkei.com, which allows you access to Nikkei.com’s subscriber services, customizable features on the site and enables Nikkei.com to charge for the services provided.

Limitations
The personally identifiable information you provide Nikkei.com is used for general account maintenance, billing of subscriptions and subscription renewals, and to allow you access to the subscriber-only areas of Nikkei.com. Nikkei.com will contact you by e-mail regarding account/billing issues and at other times, should you set your account to receive e-mails from the News Clipping, Portfolio & News by E-mail functions or site announcements and advertisements from Nikkei.com.


Information we collect

General
When you register, and at other times, you will be asked to provide personally identifiable information to Nikkei.com, which may include your name, contact address, telephone number, e-mail address, credit card information, company name, job title, and similar information.

Web Usage
Nikkei.com automatically collects IP addresses and Web usage information whenever you visit the site. This information is collated to evaluate how users use the site, including the number of visitors to sections within the site, duration of visits and which third-party sites users are entering from. We also collect web usage information automatically from visitors and subscribers through the use of cookies.


How collected information is used

Account management, billing and maintenance
The information you provide to Nikkei.com is used for establishing, processing, validating, and billing your subscription, customer support, provision of online receipts and other administrative duties related to account maintenance and management.

Upon subscribing to Nikkei.com you will receive, by e-mail, notices regarding your account, including automated notification of successful subscription, renewal announcements and renewal confirmation.

Personalized access and features
Upon setting up your account, you will be provided with a unique login details allowing access all areas of Nikkei.com. You will also be able to customize your account with personalization functions such as News Clippings, Portfolios and News by E-mail. Should you choose, you can supply an e-mail address to receive Portfolio alerts, News Clippings and News by E-mail headlines. As a subscriber, you can update, cancel and reactivate these features online at any time.

Site announcements and advertising
As a subscriber, you can opt to receive site update announcements and advertisements delivered by Nikkei.com to your registered e-mail address. You can cancel or reactivate these options at anytime via the Change Contact Details page within the Account Details section of the site.

Surveys
Nikkei.com conducts occasional surveys to help us learn more about Users news and information needs. Notifications are made by e-mail and all feedback collected is aggregated to maintain User privacy. These surveys are voluntary and should you not wish to partake in the surveys simply ignore the e-mail message announcing the survey.

Provision of aggregated data
Information may be collated and used in aggregate form (i.e. with no personally identifiable information) to third parties, such as advertisers, to provide a demographic overview of Nikkei.com’s subscriber base.

Data Storage and Security

Electronic storage
Nikkei.com maintains the personal information you provide on a separate, secure server for the purposes of billing and account maintenance. The secure server is accessible only by authorized Nikkei.com staff for the purposes of account maintenance, providing assistance to registered users and internal reporting. We maintain safeguards to protect the security of the server. As a subscriber you can access and update your personally identifiable information online through Nikkei.com’s secure servers using secure socket layer protocol (SSL protocol).

Hard Copy Storage
Personal information supplied through regular mail or fax is securely stored on-site to ensure your privacy.

Access and Update Personal Information
You can access and update your personal information at any time online from the Account Details section of the site or by contacting us via Customer Support. Nikkei.com will accurately record and maintain information as provided by the User.

Access to Personal Nikkei and News by E-mail service
If you use the e-mail functions for Personal Nikkei’s Portfolio, News Clippings and News by E-mail, you can check, change and delete your e-mail address at any time through the Personal Nikkei area or by contacting Customer Support.

In all cases where a user contacts Nikkei.com by phone, fax or e-mail regarding an account, Nikkei.com will need to verify the user’s identity to ensure protection of privacy.


Cancellation of Service

Subscriptions
Subscribers can cancel their subscriptions through the Account Details section of the site or by contacting Customer Support. Cancellations can be made at any time online. Trial subscription cancellations take effect immediately, while subscription renewal cancellations will come into effect at the end of the current subscription period.

Personal Nikkei and News by E-mail functions
Cancellations of e-mail for News Clippings, Portfolio and News by E-mail can be done online or by contacting Customer Support. Cancellations of the e-mail services will take place immediately.

COOKIE POLICY

A cookie is a small piece of information which is sent to your computer's memory (per session cookies) or hard drive (stored cookies) by a web server so that a site can remember who you are. Nikkei.com uses cookies to authenticate and allow subscribers access to our site and access personalized functions such as Portfolios, News Clipping and News by E-mail service. Other information we receive may include usage information, information about your computer such as the computer's IP address and browser type. Nikkei.com’s cookies do not contain personally identifiable information, but authenticate a User’s access from a particular computer.

Cookies are used to: 
Authenticate access from registered Users;
Provide customized features such as portfolios and news filters created by the User;
Track site usage to help us further develop the site in line with User preferences.


Automatic Login

It is possible to set up a stored cookie on your computer that will allow you faster access to Nikkei.com from a particular computer. The Automatic Login option is available from the login screen (check the "Remember Me" box) when you first access a subscriber-only page during an Internet session. Automatic Login enables you to be logged in automatically whenever you visit Nikkei.com. Please note that the automatic login option will not work if you use cookie management software or if you periodically delete your cookies.

We do not recommend automatic login on any computer that is or may be used by anyone other than yourself to prevent unauthorized access by third parties to your subscription and payment details and your News Clipping and Portfolio options.


Removing the Automatic Login Cookie

You can delete the stored cookie for Automatic login at any time by logging out at the top of the Home page. This will expel the stored cookie on your hard drive and you will be asked to log in the next time you visit Nikkei.com.


Blocking Cookies

You can set your internet browser so that it will not allow cookies to be stored on your computer, but this will prevent you from accessing any subscriber-only areas of Nikkei.com.


Transfer of Data

The information you provide to Nikkei.com is stored in Japan. By registering or subscribing to Nikkei.com you consent to the transfer of information outside your country.
